History and Functions of the Department
The Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman created today's Education Engineering Department by forming an "Engineering Unit" in 1972 with the aim of rebuilding and repairing educational institutions in Bangladesh after the War of Independence. Since independence, Bangabandhu started working to free every people of the country from the curse of illiteracy, promising to build Sonar Bangla. To achieve this goal, the development activities of educational institutions are given the highest priority in the social, economic development and annual development programs of Bangladesh. Education Engineering Department plays a vital role in educational institutions by developing physical infrastructure, construction of new buildings, expansion and maintenance of existing buildings, repair and renovation and supplying furniture. There are many schools, colleges, madrasas, technical and other educational institutions scattered all over the country. The dedicated engineers and officers-employees of this department are working tirelessly to create better infrastructure of educational institutions. As part of Digital Bangladesh construction under Rupkalpo 2021, Education Engineering Department is constructing buildings with multimedia classrooms, ICT labs, internet connection, and ICT facilities to spread modern and quality education in educational institutions of the country.
Vision: Construction of standard and up-to-date classrooms for all within 2021 and mission: to create well-educated, skilled and moral human resources, engineers, officers and employees in the Education Engineering Department are working tirelessly to develop and modernize the infrastructure of educational institutions.
Functions of Education Engineering Department:
Planning, designing, monitoring and implementation of development works for new buildings of educational institutions;
Construction, reconstruction, repair and renovation of new buildings of various educational institutions including schools, colleges, madrasas, technical educational institutions, supply of furniture etc.
Implementation of development projects of educational institutions under the Secondary and Higher Education Division and Technical and Madrasah Education Division of the Ministry of Education.
Implementation of the development work of educational institutions of other ministries or organizations.
